EBT is coming to Maku'u Farmer's Market

Long awaited, anticipated and roumored....

The EBT/SNAP Program is coming soon to the Maku'u Farmer's Market. SNAP: the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is designed to give nutritional assistance to families in need across the U.S, and the program is in its final stages of implementation at Maku'u. Vendor certification and training are currently being conducted, signage is being printed and technical issues are being dealt with. When asked about the EBT/SNAP program launch date, Heidi, the Maku'u Farmer's Market spokesperson said: "There are many elements that have to come together before this program can be launched and we have no control over many of them." She did go on to say: "It is our hope that everything will come together during the coming weeks and we are hoping, for a tentative start date sometime in May."

OK. So we cannot say for sure when this program will launch at Maku'u, but we do know that they are in the final stages of implementation and it could happen very soon! This program, locally referred to as EBT will provide a great and needed boost for the 30-40 produce and "take home" food vendors of the Maku'u Farmer's Market AND our local economy as well. As members of the Market vendor's ohana, we would like to say Mahalos for your great effort to create a greater market reach for our Market vendors and more buying options for our locals. We will post the official launch date here as soon as it has been set. Stay tuned.
